OUR REVIEW ON KELIM DAKDORITANG SINGAPORE

I recently popped into Kelim Dakdoritang in Serangoon Gardens for a hearty Korean supper, and it felt instantly familiar—like stepping into a no-frills Seoul eatery. Stainless steel tables, stools doubling as storage bins for bags, and simple gas stoves at each table all kept the focus squarely on the food. I ordered the Medium Dakdoritang (S$59.90, good for about three people). When the stew arrived, it was crowned with a mountain of raw minced garlic—dramatic and aromatic. Mixing some into the dipping sauce was heavenly: pungent, savoury, and truly addictive.

The stew was packed with chicken chunks, potatoes, spring onions, rice cakes and a fragrant broth that balanced spice and umami. Despite all that garlic, the heat was surprisingly manageable—warming, not overwhelming. As the stew simmered, the ingredients softened and the sauce thickened into a rich broth. Halfway through, I added kalguksu noodles (S$5)—chewy, comforting, and perfect for soaking up flavour. Once most of the stew was gone, I asked for bocumbap (S$8)—a fried rice made from the remaining gravy, rice, seaweed, and sesame oil. It came in a sizzling pot, slightly crispy at the bottom—and it was the ideal savory finale.

I also tried their Dakttongjip (fried chicken gizzard, S$15.90): crispy, tender, and surprisingly enjoyable even if you’re wary of gizzards. And for dessert, the Hotteok (S$9.90 for two)—a warm, chewy pancake filled with sweet syrup and crushed nuts—was a delightfully sweet end to the meal. Service was efficient and friendly, and the ambience remained cozy even as the dinner crowd picked up. If you’re after a bold, garlic-rich Korean stew that’s authentic, simple, and satisfying—especially one to share with close friends or family—Kelim Dakdoritang is a worthy destination.
